Government through the Ministry of Homeland Security has reminded all Refugees and Asylum seekers to relocate themselves from 1 April until 15 April 2023.

This has been reviewed in a letter that The Malawi Guardian online has seen dated March 27, 2023 and has signed by Minister of Homeland Security Kenneth Zikhale Ng’oma, which says all Refugees and asylum seekers which are residing in urban areas should relocate themselves to Dzaleka refugee camp.

The letter further says the government has given them an ample time as they were previously told to relocate themselves to Dzaleka refugee camp on November 30,2022 for those who stay in rural areas and February 1,2022 for those in urban areas. They have also told those affected to make necessary arrangements and settlement.

“This was ample time to allow thos affected to make all the necessary arrangement and settlements. Government appreciate the efforts of all those that have return to the camp following the deadline set and calls upon those that have not done so to immediately adhere to the notice.”

However the minister says these refugues and asylum seekers should not worry about education, business and health services because Dzaleka Refugees camp was established at an international standard for safe stay of all Refugees.

“The said standard Including but not limited to having Katubzya primary and secondary school run by JRS, The Dzaleka Health Center run by ministry of Health and the Dzaleka market run by ministry of Local Government.

All Refugees and asylum seekers are therefore expected to reside in this designated camp.
The minister has also reminded the general public that only security Agencies like Malawi police service and Department of immigration and Citenship Services as well as Refugees and asylum seekers themselves should be involved during the operation.

In 2022 the Malawi Government through Ministry of Homeland security ordered all Refugees and asylum seekers to relocate to Dzaleka refugee camp by the end of November 2022.
