Girls Advised Against Immoral Behavior

Two Malawi National Women Football players have advised girls to stay away from immoral behavior if they are to succeed.

Lindah Kasenda and Asimenye Simwaka were speaking in Mzuzu when FAM launched FIFA Women’s Football Campaign.

Kasenda who has played Women Football over 16 years advised girls stay away from immoral behavior if they are to progress in life and sports.

“You must stay away from immoral behavior like beer, smoking and premature sex in order to progress and achieve their goals both in sports and life.” Kasenda who is one campaign’s ambassadors said.

On her part, Asimenye Simwaka encouraged girls who took part in launch games to be focused and have discipline.

“Girls should remain focused on their goals and education, don’t be distracted by people’s negative talks thus what has kept me going, I have been employed through sports”. Said Simwaka.

The campaign which is supported by world football governing body FIFA, will use under 14 and 16 leagues to increase the number of girls playing football, creating awareness and empowering girls among others.

FAM’s Technical Director Benjamin Kumwenda says the association is impressed with teams display in a six a side games.

“I’m impressed with the display and the turn out today where we used 6 aside while in the league we will use 8 aside for good player development and I believe we will have more girls joining as we go which is the aim of these leagues.” Kumwenda said.

Kumwenda added that FIFA is providing all requirements for both leagues.

“FIFA will give teams all needed equipment and attire like a training kit, jerseys and match balls just to mention a few.” Kumwenda said in an interview with AfricaBrief.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) held a similar function on Saturday in Lilongwe while the Blantyre campaign will be conducted next weekend.

The leagues are expected to start next month.
