FAM Appoints Yvon Avry as New Technical Director
The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has appointed French football expert Yvon Avry as its new Technical Director, filling the position left vacant following the departure of Benjamin Kumwenda earlier this year.
Avry’s appointment comes after a rigorous recruitment process that attracted 17 candidates from across the globe. After an initial screening phase, three candidates were shortlisted and interviewed on 23rd September 2025 by a panel comprising members from FAM’s Technical, Administrative, and Human Resources departments. Avry emerged as the top choice based on his impressive qualifications, global experience, and a technical vision that aligns with FAM’s long-term development goals.
A UEFA A Diploma holder (FFF, France), Avry brings a wealth of international experience to the Malawian football landscape. His previous roles include serving as Technical Advisor for the Fédération Malagasy de Football (FMF) and as Technical Director for Fosa Juniors FC in Majunga, Madagascar. Prior to that, he was Technical Director at the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) from July 2017 to July 2018, where he played a key role in establishing youth development pathways and enhancing coach education.
Between 2007 and 2021, Avry also contributed to various global football development initiatives in his role as a FIFA Technical Consultant and Instructor.
Avry is set to officially assume his role on 3rd November 2025. As Technical Director, he will be responsible for overseeing all technical and development programs under FAM’s “Transforming the Game” Strategic Plan.
