Eagles pounce Stars in NRFA Simso Mzuzu 12 Sponsors League

Mzuzu Police side Eagle Strikers produced one of their best in the NRFA Simso Mzuzu 12 Sponsors league outclassing their fellow city rivals Chibavi Real Stars by two goals.

A game played under a sizable spectators on a sunny Saturday afternoon saw both teams starting cautiously but the visitors quickly settled only to be betrayed by a lack of composure up front.

The home team found a breakthrough at 11 minutes after the visitors’ defense failed to stop Nathaniel Mpapalika who outsmarted the defense before squaring the ball into the danger zone to find Mathambo Hara who slaughtered it passing helpless keeper Justice Mhone a goal the held on until half time.

Four minutes into the second half the visitors could have equalized but their golden chance was wasted by Adjoy Shabani whose shot went wide despite being unmarked, Eagles doubled their lead through Joseph Nyasulu who creatively curved a free kick from 25 metres beating Mhone between the posts.

Two minutes later Eagle Strikers’s Blessings Nkhoma was booked for the second time resulting in a red card for decency by word, The Eagles held on to their lead in the last 14 minutes, so it ended Eagle Strikers 2 Chibavi Real Stars 1.

After the game Eagles Strikers mentor Elvis Kafoteka described the game as tough while conceding they still have assignments to reach the last stage.

“It was a tough game considering that we have not been winning our previous games going forward we have to sharpen our front line as we missed several chances,.” Kafoteka said.

His opposite James Mhango conceded the defeat attributing it to a lack of composure while hoping to qualify for the last phase.

“We missed a lot of chances today but all is not lost as we are still second on the log and we have to work up we can qualify for the last phase,” said Mhango.

The win has propelled Eagle Strikers to third position from Six with 11 points one behind Chibavi Real Stars who have 12 while in other games played in cluster B Ekwendeni Hardknockers beat their fellow rivals Ekwendeni United by a goal to nil a repeat of first round moving on the log table to second position in one of the toughest cluster while Mhuju pounced Chitipa Galaji by a goal to nil.
