Chitipa United Break the Jinx in NRFA Top 4 Bonanza
Chitipa United are the 2023 NRFA Top 4 Bonanza Champions after Beating Mzimba United 5-4 on post match penalties after the game ended one all draw in regulation time at Chiwanja ground in Mzimba today Saturday.
Chitipa United’s win means they are the first League Champions to win the bonanza since it’s introduction in 2018 after they lost their first appearance in the bonanza at their backyard in 2019 on penalties to Baka City.
Previously Karonga United, Chitipa United, Ekwendeni Hammers and Rumphi United failed to win the bonanza.
Chitipa United Assistant coach Nathaniel Mkamanga says determination and team work helped the team to be this year’s champions.
“We are still working on coordination we believe the executive will help us with one goal poacher before the close of the transfer window then we are good to go, as for next weekend’s Northern Region Super League Bonanza it will be a tough one considering that we will be playing against experienced teams from our region but we are ready”. Visibly excited Mkamanga said in an interview.
Speaking before prize presentation Northern Region Football Association Chairperson thanks the teams for a spirited performance.
Khonje further thanked different individuals who supported the bonanza with cash including Sulom President Fleetwood Haiya and Felister Dossi.
Haiya who supported this year’s bonanza with MK 1 200 000 has pledged to support next season bonanza with an improved package.
“I feel honoured to be here to witness this year’s Bonanza I’m pledging to support next season’s bonanza with MK 5 Million so that the champion can get a better package”. Haiya said during presentation.
Champions Chitipa United got MK 800 000,
Mzimba United got MK 600 000 for finishing as runners up,
Kadona Stars for finishing third got MK 400 000 while fourth placed
Baka City got MK200 000.
Apart from the prize money teams received advance cash support to cushion their logistics for the Bonanza.
