Vice President Dr Jane Mayemu Ansah has urged young Malawians to remain resilient in the face of unemployment and use their education, skills and innovation to create jobs and businesses.

Speaking on Saturday, October 3, 2026, during the National Youth Dialogue on the Right to Development at Sunbird Mzuzu Hotel, Ansah encouraged graduates facing repeated rejection in the labour market not to consider themselves failures, but professionals still building their future.

She cited her own journey from studying law to practising in court, serving as a Justice of Appeal and eventually becoming Vice President as an example of perseverance and determination.

Ansah said addressing challenges facing young graduates and entrepreneurs requires concerted efforts from Government, the private sector and financial institutions.

She said access to employment, skills development, capital and productive opportunities was critical to Malawi’s development and the constitutional right to development as provided under Section 30.

The Vice President also challenged banks and other financial institutions to make financing more accessible to young people with innovative ideas instead of relying heavily on established assets as collateral.

She urged young people to move beyond waiting for formal employment by combining their professional skills with entrepreneurship to establish businesses capable of creating jobs for others.

Ansah pledged continued Government support through financing initiatives, youth empowerment programmes, incubation, local procurement and public-private partnerships.

She, however, reminded young people that while the right to development belongs to them, the determination to pursue and achieve development must also come from within.
