HRAs planned demos shifted from 4th to 11th October, 2023
Planned demonstrations by the Human Rights Ambassadors (HRAs) which were set to be held on 4th October, 2023 have been shifted to 11th October, 2023 to allow Malawians mourn Rt. Hon. Dr. John Zenasi Ungapake Tembo, the country’s longest serving politicians who was in the first cabinet of Ngwazi Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda in 1964.
A Human Right Activist based in South Africa Sir Charles Ben Longwe announced wave of demonstrations against the Fall of President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera and his MCP led government for no interest in addressing the sufferings of the citizens.
According to Longwe who is also the Vice President of the Malawi First said the Human Rights Ambassadors were set to hold demonstrations on 4th October while the Malawi First on 11th October, 2023 saying all the demonstrations will be taking place in Lilongwe.
In all the two demonstrations to take place in Lilongwe, Ben Longwe sent a strong message to Area 30 National Police Headquarters that Malawians don’t need them as a provider of security saying they have been proved to be not for the citizens.
Longwe said many lessons were learnt after two peaceful demonstrations in Lilongwe on 30th August and 7th September, 2023 when the Malawi Police Service {MPS} were seen siding with MCP militias (gangsters).
He assured the authorities in Malawi that the citizens will not get tired of writing the Malawi Defense Force (MDF) Commander General Paul Velentino Phiri to command his forces to provide security to the activists and demonstrators.
The Activist said they have already penned the United Nations {UN} to justify the reasons why activists and demonstrators in Malawi are opting for soldiers to protect them other than the Malawi Police Service which is mandated to protect life and property.
“If the MDF fails to provide security, we will provide for our own to man the demonstrators, the planned demonstrations will be so peaceful because those who provoke us will not be there,” said Longwe.
He warned police officers not to dare coming to these demonstrations in uniform assuring them that Malawians are now prepared than before to fight the enemy from within saying it is the wish of the activists and demonstrators not to see any police officer coming in uniform to their demonstrations.
