Chakwera pays tribute to the departed JZU
President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera says he is deeply saddened by the passing of Rt. Hon. Dr. John Zenus Ungapake Tembo describing him as a pillar in the history of Malawian politics.
Chakwera says Rt. Hon. Dr. JZU had extensive experience as a cabinet member with his contributions to the country including his role as the first Malawian Minister of Finance and Governor of the Reserve Bank.
He says his unwavering commitment to the MCP and his instrumental role in facilitating a democratic transfer of power within the party in 2013, will forever be in a nation’s political history describing his legacy as one of resilience and dedication.
Writing in his eulogies, President Chakwera says Malawians will remember JZU not only as a political stalwart but also a source of inspiration and a repository of knowledge extending his deepest condolences to the bereaved family, the MCP and all Malawians during this difficult time.
“We have lost a true statesman and his legacy will forever remain in our hearts, may his soul rest in eternal peace,” reads Chakwera’s eulogies.
MCP members in the diaspora have joined the whole MCP family in mourning the late Hon. JZU saying throughout his life, he has been a pillar and fountain of wisdom for the party, he stood strong to steer the party during the years MCP was in opposition.
“JZU has been a symbol of loyalty and dedication, he dedicated his life to serving others and serving Malawi,” reads the eulogies of MCP diaspora wing.

And on his part, social media influencer Joshua Chisa Mbele says if Ngwazi Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda’s Administration was successful in public service administration, JZU was his instrumental saying he competently worked in all public institutions as assigned with distinction such as Chairman of ADMARC, Finance Minister, Governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi and Minister of State.
Chisa Mbele says JZU was not involved in the Mwanza murders of Aaron Gadama, Dick Matenje, Twaibu Sangala and David Chiwanga saying the matter was tested in court and it came out negative saying he was the most charismatic and caring public officer who tolerated nonsense and or incompetence.
‘He also established few businesses for himself including Dudu chickens, rest in peace JZU” reads Chisa Mbele’s eulogies.
