Nyamilandu Attends Mass Memorial Service for Karonga Accident

Walter Nyamilandu President of Football Association was part of the crowd which attended the mass memorial service which took place at Nyungwe Primary School.

Nyungwe Football Club was involved in an accident at Tenenthe area along Karonga/Chitipa in which 24 people were confirmed dead and 75 still nursing injuries while 26 have been discharged.

Speaking to the Media, Walter Nyamilandu FAM President said they are saddened with what has happened and has asked the people of Nyungwe to strong and not throw in the towel on football.

“As Football Association of Malawi we are devastated with the news and thats why by all means I managed to come so that we can mourn with our friends from Nyungwe in this trying moment and give them hope that not all is lost and they are not alone”. He Said

Furthermore, Nyamilandu encouraged the people of Nyungwe not to give up on their football dreams as they have good history when football is concerned.

” I would like to encourage the people of Nyungwe to be strong during this trying moment and also I would like to see them continue playing football when they have healed from the trauma as you know Nyungwe is one of the footballing places which has produced a lot of players and the team has been playing well as they finished as runners up in FAM district league and promoted in FAM Moto division league in which they doing so well”. he lamented.

The Event was also attended by many high profile people including Paramount Chief Kyungu, Minister of Youth and Sports Uchizi Mkandawire, Minister of Defence Harry Mkandawire, Minister of Agriculture Sam Kawale who also represented the President, Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara, Archbishop of Karonga Diocese Mathews Mtumbuka and many more.
