Man commits suicide in Rumphi
A man identified as James Milanzi Chipere, adult, of Teyateya Village under Traditional Authority Chikowi in Zomba has committed suicide at Mwazisi area in Rumphi.
The incident occurred during the night of June 3 and 4 2023 at the said place.
Chipere (deceased) together with his family went to Hewe in search of green pastures from their home village.
According to the reporter who is the deceased wife, three weeks ago the husband started behaving strangely like a mentally challenged person.
Later on Chipere started damaging household items and he revealed to his wife that someone had forced him to start smoking Indian hemp.
After some days ,he left home and started living in the in the bush. Out of the bush, he came back to his wife and said he will commit suicide.
On June 3 this year he went to Kamphenda Trading Center and his friend tried to convince him that he should go back home but to no avail.
Then on Sunday June 4 ,he was found dead by passers-by dead whilst hanging in a tree.
The matter was reported to Rumphi Police Station who joined with medical personnel from Bolero Health Centre.
Postemortem results showed that death was due to strangulation following hanging.
Meanwhile, police in the district are urging community members to seek advice from relevant authorities rather than terminating their lives.
