Mzuzu police bemoan escalating cases of suicides
In Mzuzu, a 14 year old girl, Moles Mwandila has died after committing suicide at Lubinga in Mzuzu.
The girl went missing on May 16, 2023 and matter was reported to Police who launched investigations immediately. She was found dead on May 21, 2023 in a decomposed state in a chicken kraal suspectedly after she had committed suicide.
The scene was visited by police officers along with medical personnel.
Postmortem conducted at Mzuzu Central Hospital revealed that Moles Mwandila who hailed from Vumo village, Traditional Authority Nthalire in chitipa district died due to strangulation.
In a related development, another 36 year old man Wakisa Mwandalo has committed suicide by hanging himself in his bedroom on May 22, 2023 around 4:00am at Chiputula location.
The deacesed was found hanging in his bedroom following the quarrel he had with his friend on Sunday over undisclosed reasons.
Postmortem conducted at Mzuzu Central Hospital showed that the cause of death was suffocation due to strangulation.
The deceased hailed from Mwashokera village in Traditional Authority Kyungu in Karonga district.
Police is advising the general public to share their troubling issues to Police Victim Support Unit, churches, traditional leaders, non-governmental organisations for counseling on how best to handle them and indeed getting better redress rather than resorting to commiting suicide as a solution to their problems.
