Malawi’s Vice President, Justice Dr. Jane Ansah, has been appointed to the Presidential Advisory Council of G100, a global network of women leaders, marking a significant milestone for the country on the international stage.

The appointment, announced this week, places Dr. Ansah among an influential group of current and former heads of state, prime ministers, and internationally recognised leaders who advise the organisation on advancing women’s leadership in government, the judiciary, business, and other sectors.

As a member of the council, Dr. Ansah will serve alongside prominent figures including the , former Ecuadorian President , Slovakia’s first female Prime Minister , and Ukrainian human rights advocate , whose organisation received the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize. The council also includes first ladies from Italy and Zimbabwe.

Her appointment gives Malawi representation at the highest level of G100, a platform that connects global leaders and promotes gender equality and women’s participation in political, judicial and economic decision-making.

Officials in the Office of the Vice President say the appointment is expected to enhance Malawi’s international profile while creating opportunities for strategic partnerships that could contribute to the country’s development agenda.

G100, chaired by Dr. Harbeen Arora Rai, brings together 100 women leaders from diverse sectors worldwide, supported by national chapters and HeForShe champions who advocate for inclusive leadership.

Dr. Ansah brings more than 40 years of distinguished legal and public service experience to the council. A retired Justice of Appeal and Senior Counsel, she graduated from Chancellor College, University of Malawi, in 1978 before obtaining a Master’s degree in International Human Rights and a Doctorate from the University of Nottingham in 2002.

She was appointed a High Court judge in 1997 and made history in 2006 as Malawi’s first female Attorney General, serving until 2011 before returning to the judiciary. She later served as a Justice of Appeal until her retirement in 2020.

Throughout her career, she has also chaired the Malawi Electoral Commission, led the SADC Electoral Commissions Forum, served on several national and African Union boards, and authored publications on human rights and legal development.

Dr. Ansah assumed office as Malawi’s Vice President in October 2025 after being elected alongside President in the 16 September 2025 General Election.
