Dowa Ngala Member of Parliament has called on the Ministry of Health to expand Kachigamba and Tsukamakoza health centres to improve access to healthcare services in the constituency.

Khombeni made the appeal on Tuesday during the Third Ordinary Meeting of Parliament in Lilongwe, saying the constituency continues to face inadequate health infrastructure.

The legislator said residents currently depend on Bowe and Kachigamba health centres for medical services, with Kachigamba also receiving support from , a non-governmental organisation providing medical assistance at the facility.

He urged the government to upgrade Kachigamba Health Centre and complete the construction of Tsukamakoza Health Centre, a project that has remained unfinished since 2020.

“So far we are satisfied with the Minister’s response. The people of Ngala need better healthcare facilities,” Khombeni said.

He noted that Kachigamba Health Centre serves about 9,000 people, while Tsukamakoza, which currently operates as an under-five clinic, serves approximately 4,000 people, describing the situation as a major challenge to healthcare access.

Despite the concerns, Khombeni commended the government for acknowledging the constituency’s health service gaps and considering the request.

Responding to the concerns, Minister of Health assured Parliament that the government would assess the matter and work towards providing a lasting solution.

Parliament is expected to continue with its deliberations on Wednesday afternoon.
