CUMO Microfinance Limited has donated 65 desks worth K10 million to Kanjiwa Community Day Secondary School in Ntchisi District.

Speaking during the handover ceremony on Monday at the school campus, CUMO’s Chief Executive Officer, Ezekiel Phiri, said the donation aims to help improve education standards in the district.

He said: “Education is key to success. If our students cannot learn comfortably in a conducive environment, then we risk having a nation that struggles to progress. It is our expectation that this donation will contribute to better results, allowing learners to pursue higher education.”

Speaking on behalf of the Ntchisi District Education Office, Joel Mhango thanked CUMO for complementing government efforts to improve education delivery, describing the donation as timely.

He said: “We appreciate what CUMO has done. This donation will create a conducive learning environment, enabling students to focus and learn with peace of mind.”

The school’s headteacher, Madalitso Kaulizi, said the desks have significantly addressed the school’s challenges.

“Previously, some learners sat on the bare floor, which negatively impacted their studies. This situation led to some students dropping out before completing secondary education. We are hopeful this donation will enhance learners’ performance in class,” he said.

CUMO is a non-profit organization that provides financial services to rural Malawian communities. Its offerings include loans, insurance, village savings and loan management, and financial literacy training, among others.
