Lilongwe Water Board Reduces Non-Revenue Water Loss with JICA-Supported Project
The Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) has made strides in curbing non-revenue water loss, decreasing it from 40% in 2019 to 36% through its Capacity Strengthening Project for Non-Revenue Water Reduction.
LWB Board Member Innocent Mphote shared these updates on Wednesday in Lilongwe.
The project, supported by the Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA), is set to conclude in December. Despite the recent improvement, LWB still incurs monthly losses of K2.2 billion due to non-revenue water. Mphote emphasized the board’s goal of further reducing these losses to around 25%.
He pointed to aging infrastructure and vandalism as significant contributors to the water loss.
