The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) and Government have reaffirmed their commitment to ensure the Malawi Women’s National Football Team, the Scorchers, are fully supported as preparations intensify for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) finals.
FAM President Fleetwood Haiya held a high-level engagement with the Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Honourable Patricia Wiskies, to review progress made in mobilising support for the national women’s team ahead of the continental showpiece.
Haiya briefed the minister that FAM has already initiated plans to engage key stakeholders as part of broader efforts to strengthen preparations and resource mobilisation.
“I informed the Honourable Minister that we have already started engaging important partners, including National Bank Plc, who are the official sponsors of the Scorchers, as part of our strategy to mobilise resources and ensure the team is well prepared,” said Haiya.
In response, Minister Wiskies reaffirmed Government’s full backing for the women’s national team, stressing the importance of coordinated support to enhance the Scorchers’ competitiveness at the tournament.
“Government remains committed to providing all the necessary support to ensure the Scorchers prepare adequately and represent the country strongly at the 2026 WAFCON finals,” said Wiskies.
The engagement underscores a growing collaboration between FAM, Government and the private sector aimed at creating a solid preparation framework for the Scorchers as they gear up for one of Africa’s biggest women’s football tournaments.
