Members of the Football Journalists Association (FJA) are planning to serve the current Executive Committee with an injunction to stop it from continuing to operate in office, following its failure to convene both the Elective General Meeting (EGM) and the Annual General Meeting (AGM) for several years.

The members argue that the prolonged absence of these statutory meetings is a clear violation of the association’s constitution, as it denies members the opportunity to review activities, demand accountability, and scrutinize financial records.

They further contend that the Executive Committee has been operating illegally, as its term of office expired several years ago without fresh elections being held. Members also claim that no financial report has been produced since the last AGM held four years ago.

Efforts to obtain a response from the leadership have reportedly failed, with no Exco member commenting on the matter. As tensions rise, members have called on the current Executive Committee to step down peacefully before the situation gets out of hand.

Some members have also expressed their frustration in strong terms, with one remarking in Chichewa: “Kwinaku tiyeni tizingodya mango za EGM/AGM, yiwalani ma bwana anadya ndalama zonse ndipo palibe ngakhale khodo,” reflecting deep concerns over accountability and governance within the association.

The current committee comprises Joy Ndovi as President, Detrich Fredrich as Vice President, Mavuto Kambuwe as Secretary General, and Madalitso Phiri as Treasurer.
