The former President of the United Democratic Front (UDF) Atulpele Muluzi said Malawi is not a Poor country as it has been said arguing that the country only lacks good leaders with leadership skills.
The Son of Dr Bakili Muluzi said this on Sunday in Mzuzu at Chibavi ground where the UDF party held it’s “Thank you” rally as they were celebrating 30 years of existence.
He said Malawi is capable of changing its economic status between 8 to 10 years as far as the country can have good leaders with good vision of the country.
“The message today is that Malawi is at time of the new beginning where we can begin to change our stories as a nation and that is a choice that Malawians have by looking at the next elections.
“I wanted to emphasize one point, Malawi is a very rich country, extremely rich and I made this point that God has blessed this country with huge bundles of natural resources, we have forestry, minerals, oil and gas potential, labour force, water that we can do agriculture.
“There is no reason why Malawi should be at the bottom of the three poorest countries in Africa. The challenge is that we are not finding solutions, the role of leadership is to find solutions and I believe that we have strategies that can allow us to jump within 10 years to reach middle income strategies,” said Muluzi.

The party President Lilian Patel ask youths to register for have National Identity cards.
“We are spreading the message to youth that they must register and have National Identity inorder for them to access to vote, Youths are almost 65 percent of population and they can change things,” said Patel.
The rally is was part of the 30th anniversary celebrations of the party since was established in 1993 by Former Malawi President Dr Bakili Muluzi and was the first Multiparty Government.
The party held similar rally celebrations in Blantyre and Lilongwe.
Other notable figures in attendance include Inkosi Kampingo Sibande of Mzimba District, Ken Ndanga among others.
The rallies of the party are being spiced up by musical performance by renowned musician, Skeffa Chimoto.
