DPP to Meet NGC to Decide Dates for Convention

The former ruling party, Democratic Progressive (DPP) has scheduled a meeting with National Governing Council (NGC) with the aim of deciding the dates for the party’s conventions

In a statement released by the party signed by the General Secretary Gresselder Jeffrey and spokesperson, Shadrick Namalomba, the meeting is scheduled for 24 June, 2023 at Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi.

The Central Committee of the party has organised the meeting in exercise of the power vested in them under the Article 9(5)(c) of the party’s Constitution.

“In exercise of the power vested in the Central Committee under Article 9(5)(d) of the DPP Constitution to set dates for meeting of the National Governing Council (NGC), the Central Committee resolved that the party shall hold the National Governing Council Meeting on 24 June, 2023 at Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi.

“The Council will decide ghe dates for the extraordinary and elective conventions,” reads the statement.

Leader of Opposition, Kondwani Nankhumwa, former Reserve Bank Governor, Dalitso Kabambe, Bright Msaka and the current party’s President, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika are expected to battle it out for the presidency of the party at the elective conventions.
