Woman drags to death over marital disagreements in Rumphi

A-39-year old woman, Lizie Kanyotha of Kanyotha Village under traditional authority Kachulu in Rumphi drugged herself to death after a misunderstanding with her husband ensued on June 12, 2023.

This happened at Mantchewe in Livingstonia around 19:00 hours.

Kanyotha took overdose of unprescribed medicine after she allegedly beat up her husband during a family fight where the latter reported to police.

Upon realizing that the matter has been reported to police, her parents tried to provide counseling which did not yield positive results.

She was later discovered unconscious in her house by a six year old child who shouted for assistance.

Neighbors rushed in and took her to the David Gordon Memorial hospital for treatment where she died on June 14 while receiving treatment.

Postmortem results revealed Kanyotha died of organ failure due to drug overdose.

Meanwhile police in the district are appealing to community members to seek advice from relevant authorities rather than taking own lives when they have burning issues.
