Trio in cooler over malicious damage
Police in Rumphi have arrested three men from Jantchali village under Traditional Authority Chikulamayembe in the district on allegations that they jointly damaged a house of Joel Botha of the same area on June 28, 2023.
The trio are Anord Botha 27, Lewis Botha 23 and George Botha 26 all from Jantchali village.
On June 27, 2023 one of the suspect’s relative died in Lilongwe due to high blood pressure.
Rumours started circulating within the village accusing Joel Botha of having a hand in the death of trio’s relative which prompted the three to mobilise themselves to demolish the victim’s house which was under construction.
The victim ran away for his safety and reported the matter at Rumphi Police Station who rushed to the scene and found the building completely demolished.
The value of damaged properties is currently not yet known.
The trio will appear before court soon once investigations are completed.
Police in the district are appealing to public to refrain from taking law into their own hands whenever they have misunderstandings to avoid committing such serious crimes.
