One Dies, Four Injuried in Mzimba Road Accident
One person has died while three others have sustained various degrees of injuries after the motor vehicle they were traveling in involved in a road accident in Mzimba.
The deceased has been identified as David Mbale from Chato Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mwenemisiku in Chitipa District.
The accident which happened on Wednesday morning at Champhoyo Area, involved a motor vehicle registration number BLK 6857 Mazda Demio, driven by Lusayo Zimba, 34, of Phaso Village in Traditional Authority Kanyenda in Nkhotakota.
It is reported that Zimba was driving from the direction of Kasungu heading Mzuzu along Jenda – Mzuzu M1 road with five passengers on board.
Upon arrival at Champhoyo Area, the driver failed to negotiate the left bend due speeding and as a result, the vehicle swerved to the extreme offside and overturned.
Following the impact, one passenger (David Mbale) sustained head injuries while three other passengers sustained various degrees of injuries.
Mbale and one other passenger were rushed to Mzimba District Hospital where Mbale died while receiving treatment. He died due to severe head injuries.
Motor vehicle got its front part extensively damaged.
Police in the district are advising drivers to observe speed limits to avoid similar incidents.
Time has come that CCTV cameras should be installed throughout the roads to easily monitor such wrekless drivers.
We are loosing potential citizens due to road accidents which were avoidable, simply because we’ve no mechanism in place to check the same.
