North Women’s teams geared up for the new season

The 2023 FAM Womens League commences today as communicated by the National Womens Football Association (NWFA) during the week.

This years championship has seen prize money being raised compared to what was being received in the past years for instance at regional level champions will now pocket four million kwacha from two million, runners up from one million to 1.5 million while third and fourth place will receive one million and five hundred thousand respectively.

At National level the prize has also been adjusted with the champion pocketing eight million kwacha from three million, runners up four million from two million while third and fourth place will receive two million and 1.5 million respectively.

According to FAM they have been engaging NWFA in preparation for this years championship by increasing the value and competitiveness of the league in support of professionalism agenda that have been fruitful.

Speaking to one of the coaches from northern region Allan Kamanga who coaches defending champions CY sisters he said that his side is ready to defend the title and also commended the management for increasing the prize money.

“CY sisters is always ready for any challenge this season as we look to defend the title that we have been winning for years now now, we know it won’t be easy but we will fight to the end and also let me recommend our authorities for increasing prize money as this will boosting up the competition among the teams and bring more excitement to the game” Said Kamanga

Another Coach Khumbo Sibale who coaches MK Academy said that they want to improve from where they finished last year.

“We are ready for the challenge as we want to break into the race for the championship if not finish in top three so that we can participate in the national championship, I know this season it will be tough with the increment of prize which we have recommend our authorities as it will bring more competition and excitement to the game” Said Sibale

In the first week of the Womens League from north CY sisters will take on Ekwendeni Sisters, Bicco Women versus MK Academy, Moyale Sisters versus Hardnockers while Gafu Sisters will play Topik Sisters.

At Central Region Hungry Lions will play MDF lioness, Blue Eagles Ladies against Kamuzu Institute FC, Ascent Academy play Silver Strikers Women and Chisomo Academy will play Civil Service Women while in southern region Mighty Wanderers Queens will play Attu Bullets, Ndirande Soccer Giants will take on Evirom, Bvumbwe against FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women and Red Lioness will play Ntopwa.
