NBS Bank National Division League to Kick Off May 24 in Mchinji
The inaugural NBS Bank National Division League (NDL) is set to kick off on May 24 at Mchinji Community Centre Ground, with Villa United taking on Mitundu Baptist in the opening match.
Speaking during a press briefing at Mpira Village in Blantyre, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Fleetwood Haiya confirmed the date and emphasized the league’s significance.
“We are ready. The NDL marks a new era for second-tier football in Malawi,” said Haiya.
He further announced that FAM’s executive committee recently resolved to increase funding support to teams.
“We have agreed to double subvention for each participating team to K15 million,” he revealed.
Shadrick Chikusilo, NBS Bank’s chief operations officer, said the bank is confident in its investment after committing K982 million to the league over three seasons.
“This league will take our brand everywhere and boost the quality of football in the country,” Chikusilo said.
The NDL replaces the regional football leagues and will feature 12 teams. The top three teams at the end of the season will earn promotion to the TNM Super League, Malawi’s premier football division.
