Beverly Daniel Manjolo, 41, is in custody at Mzuzu Police Station for allegedly committing fraud, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and abduction in Mzuzu.

Manjolo was arrested on September 22, 2024, while attempting to cross the Malawian border at Malaka into Mozambique in a vehicle he had fraudulently obtained.

The suspect hired a Honda Fit from Bertha Dindi on September 8, 2024, agreeing to use it within Mzuzu for a week.

However, he failed to pay and instead showed a fake message as proof of payment. Manjolo then obtained goods and services worth 16.4 million kwacha from seven people at Zigwagwa Market on September 12, 2024, promising to pay later, but never did.

Upon reporting to Mzuzu Police, an investigation was launched, leading to the seizure of the vehicle and Manjolo’s arrest. A 19-year-old St Johns College of Nursing student was found with him at the time.

Manjolo will face charges of fraud, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and abduction once paperwork is completed.
