The Mulanje District Council is taking a significant step towards promoting inclusivity by encouraging parents to support children with disabilities in sports and education.

At the Special Olympics and Paralympics open day held at Mulanje Park Stadium, District Sports Officer Sherif Malunga emphasized that learners with disabilities have the right to participate in sporting activities.

This initiative aims to break down barriers and provide equal opportunities for children with disabilities.

Unified Coach Mayoh Likalowa has observed a notable increase in interest among disabled learners, which is a positive sign for the future of inclusive sports.

To further boost awareness, Mulanje district council chairperson Councillor Daniel Chauluka announced plans to educate the public about the importance of educating disabled children.

The event featured a range of activities that catered to children with disabilities, including: Bottle Filling, Egg Racing, Sack Racing, 100 and 200 Meters Races, Javelin and Weightlifting.

These activities demonstrate the council’s commitment to providing a supportive environment where children with disabilities can thrive and develop their skills.

Similar initiatives have been successful in other regions, such as the Olympia Africa Youth Centre in Uganda, which has promoted inclusive sports and seen a significant change in attitude towards disability in the district.
