Following his defeat as Member of Parliament for Lilongwe City Centre Constituency in the September 2025 polls, Homeland Security Minister Peter Mukhitho on Monday donated 50 wheelchairs and maize flour to people with disabilities at Kauma in Lilongwe.

Speaking during the ceremony, Mukhitho said he believes in development, improving the quality of life and supporting underprivileged people.

He said during the 2025 campaign period he met My Choice Youth Organisation, which he has been working with to help alleviate the suffering of people with disabilities and the elderly.

“During that time I sourced a donation from my good friends in Germany who provided these 50 wheelchairs,” he said.

Mukhitho, who is also the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Secretary General, said apart from distributing the wheelchairs, he also thought it was important to bring bags of maize flour to help ease food challenges faced by the elderly and other underprivileged people.

He said the donation was not about politics but about making a difference in the lives of suffering Malawians.

My Choice Youth Organisation member Roslyn Asani said their organisation partnered with Mukhitho to implement the initiative after observing the challenges faced by elderly and disabled people in the area.

She added that the organisation has several programmes it plans to implement in the community.

One of the beneficiaries, Hudson Douglas, hailed Mukhitho and My Choice Youth Organisation for the support, saying the wheelchair he received will help him travel long distances to meet his daily needs, something he struggled to do before.

Mukhitho contested as Member of Parliament for Lilongwe City Centre but lost to Aubrey Nankhuni in the September 2025 polls.
