Manhunt for Herbalist Killer in Rumphi

Police in Rumphi have launched a manhunt for Kenneth Harawa, 22, who is suspected to have killed a58-year-old man, Simon Msiska, of Mkalira Village, Traditional Authority Mwankhunikira in the district.

The incident occurred on June 28, 2023 at around 17:00 hours.

Facts are that on June 25, 2023 the father to the suspect (Harawa) called Msiska (deceased) who was a herbalist, to heal his wife who was suffering of backbone.

On the same day, the suspect and Msiska (deceased), were together, taking locally brewed beer (Kachasu).

However, following misunderstandings, a quarrel erupted then Harawa took a piece of wood and hit Msiska on the head. He sustained a deep cut.

Msiska was taken to Mhuju Health Centre where unfortunately, he died on June 28, 2023 while receiving medical attention.

After postemortem, medical personnel confirmed that death was due to head injuries.

Meanwhile, police in the district is appealing to community members to avoid taking laws into their own hands whenever misunderstanding arise.

In a related development, police in the district have arrested Ackim Phiri, 43 of Chaola Village under Traditional Authority Chulu in Kasungu for offence of acts intended to cause grievious harm on June 28, 2023 at Mahuza Village, Vongo Area.

Ackim assaulted Joseph Window with a panga knife over suspicion that he was stealing from his maize field.
