Man nabbed for possession of cannabis in Chitipa

Police in Chitipa district are keeping in custody Given Kaungo 28, suspected to have been found with two sack bags of Cannabis Sativa weighing 40.4 Kilograms, without a license.

According to Constable Mathews Bright Mfune Assistant Public Relations Officer Chitipa Police Station, said the arrest followed a tip-off by some well-wishers who informed the Police officers manning Kapoka Roadblock in the wee hours of July 09, 2024, about someone who was being suspected of possessing Cannabis Sativa and had booked a room at a certain lodge around Kapoka Trading Centre.

Acting on the information, Police officers made an immediate follow-up to the said lodge and conducted a search, where they found the suspect with two sacks hidden in sack-bags containing alleged drugs.

When he asked about the license (permit) allowing him to possess such drugs he failed to produce one, hence his arrest.

Meanwhile, the cannabis has already been tested at the Chitipa research station proving it to be real and the suspect will appear before the court upon completion of paperwork to answer his charges.

Given Kaungo hails from Yeremia Mwang’anda village, Traditional Authority Kameme in Chitipa district.
