The Senior Resident magistrate court in mzuzu has convicted and sentenced Crusade Nyirenda, 35 to 21 years imprisonment with hard labour for burglary and theft.

The court heard through state prosecutor sub inspector Sam Juziwell that the convict committed the offences on 14 November 2022.

Juziwell said that the convict broke into the house of Priscilla Mlenga and stole assorted items valued at K1, 946, 000.

In court, Nyirenda pleaded guilty to the charges.

Nyirenda then prayed for leniency to the court when passing its sentence saying that he has a family which depends on him.

However, the state through Juziwell asked the court for a stiffer punishment considering that he is not the first time offender and also that other items were not recovered.

Passing his sentence, senior Resident Magistrate Issa Abdulla Maulidi concurred with the state and then slapped Nyirenda to 21 years imprisonment for burglary and theft.

Crusade Nyirenda hails from Mwatambulira village, traditional authority Wansambo in Karonga District.
