Two FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Players, Austin Chirambo and Crispin Mapemba has made it into the final squad for the 2023 Hollywoodbets Cosafa Cup games.

There was a stand-off between Football Association of Malawi and Super League of Malawi which led to the delay of the release of the squad.

Sulom said it will not reschedule matches to exempt clubs that have contributed players to the Malawi National Football Team

According to FAM regulations, clubs that contribute four players to the national team are exempted from local fixtures.

However, Sulom general secretary Williams Banda in an interviews with Nation Sport said the four teams will not be exempted from matches due to congestion of the 2023 football calendar.

He said: “This was agreed prior to the league kick-off to respect only Fifa-sanctioned windows.

“You may recall that kick-off was shifted from April 8 to 15. In short, no changes to fixtures shall be done. The calendar is very congested.”

FAM General Secretary said they were in discussions with Sulom to find the way forward and it seems like the agreement has been reached and the team is expected to leave the country on Tuesday morning to South Africa.

Mabedi has named a 25-member squad for the 2023 Hollywoodbets Cosafa Cup scheduled to take place in Durban, South Africa between July 5-16.

The squad is dominated by local players with Zambia based duo of Chawanangwa Kaonga and Chifundo Mphasi as the only abroad based stars.

The Flames, who are in Group B alongside Zambia, Comoros and Seychelles will play their first match against Zambia on July 6 before facing Seychelles on July 9. The Patrick Mabedi side will play their last group stage match against Comoros on July 11.
