Karonga United in Fundraising Drive
Karonga based TNM Super League side Karonga United are set to hold a mega fundraising event with the aim of improving the welfare of its players and coaching panel.
The Event which is slated to take place this Saturday at the Karonga Museum is said to be spiced up by Lusubilo Band and Mpani Pani hit maker Tramour.
IN an interview On Wednesday fundraising Chairperson for Karonga United William Ngwira, said since the club is running without sponsorship hence the event is aimed at raising funds for the club for its activities and the welfare of its players and staff.
He said “As you know Karonga United is relying on well-wishers and members of the community for its daily needs so to mitigate some of the financial challenges that we encounter we thought of organizing this event to assist the day to day running of the club in the super league,”
Ngwira further disclosed the organizing committee has therefore set aside a target of K6 Million at the fundraising event.
Saying the money raised will go a long way for the club to carry out some of their targets which includes upkeep allowances for players, coaching staff and transportation for upcoming away assignments.
“The Karonga community has done a lot for the club and continue to self-sponsor the club and we hope on Saturday they will turn up in large numbers to fundraise for their beloved club,” added Ngwira.
On his part a Karonga United fanatic Atukete Sichali, hailed the club’s executive for coming up with the initiative which he described as timely considering that Karonga is set to welcome two giants of Malawi football in FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers in the district this weekend.
Concurring with Sichali Peter Mbwira a local based pundit, has commended Karonga united for organizing the event. Saying the clubs past struggles in the super league have been down to lack of financial incentive and motivation.
He observed the situation of lack of sponsorship has posed a serious threat to have a strong and settle side in the elite division hence hailed the initiative.
