Kachaje demands K300 million from Kalindo for defamation
Chief Executive Officer for the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) Henry Kachaje through his lawyers Chimowa and Associates, is demanding K300 million from Activist Bon Kalindo for defamation against him alleging that he invited Kalindo for a meeting with a call to him to remain quiet and speaking nothing as the government is hiking prices of fuel.
The lawyers have demanded a retraction and apology from Kalindo to their client and this should be made through the same channel Kalindo’s audios are circulating in various social media platforms and two national newspapers.
In the letter to Kalindo dated 29th August 2024, the lawyers say their client has categorically denied over meeting Kalindo on the fact that Kachaje sent any of his servants or agents to engage Kalindo about any enterprise.
The lawyers say the words that Kalindo published in his audio clip have the natural and ordinary meaning that their client is a corrupt person, lacks a sense of professionalism, is a crook and dishonest person, and uses crooked and dishonest means to discharge his duties.
They have claimed that Kalindo’s words have injured Kachaje’s character, credit, and reputation demanding an unconditional apology and a retraction within 24 hours of the letter and a compensation of K300 million for defamation.
“Should you fail to issue a retraction and apology as demanded, and you fail to pay the compensation, we have a firm instruction to commence court proceedings against you,” reads the lawyer’shandwritingwithh attention to Dick Chimowa.
But, speaking through an audio clip circulating on various social media platforms, Kalindo said he is all aware that many are against him, wish him to be dead for speaking nothing but justice thanking many Malawians who are praying for his safety in the journey to restore the country’s lost hard-won democracy.
Kalindo said the issues he speaks about in his audio clips are factually advising Malawians that fake activists are those who are busy making useless noise in social sidingsidion with the MCP government and against the will of millions of Malawians.
“I, Bon Kalindo, being President of the poor in Malawi, will not back mediocrity, if I am arrested, I will be arrested for speaking justice,” he said.
Kalindo has finally urged patriotic Malawians and those wishing him well that they should not be disappointed with threats that are directed at him disclosing to Malawians that Henry Kachaje’s contract as MERA CEO expired on 23rd August 2024 and he is still working there to this day.
