Unidentified individuals have been attempting to grab the property formerly used as the Egyptian embassy in Lilongwe’s Area 10, sparking outrage and swift government action.

The property, which has been vacant, is reportedly being eyed for personal gain, but authorities are resolute in protecting it.

Minister of Lands, Chimwemwe Chipungu, who visited the property, has confirmed that it was purchased in 1992 and remains in the name of the Egyptian government.

The minister’s visit revealed that the property has been vandalized, with thieves making off with valuable materials, including windows, doors, and even fruit trees planted by the former ambassador.

The vandalism and attempted grabbing of the property are a clear indication of the brazen disregard for the law and public property.

Minister Chipungu has vowed that no one will be allowed to take over the property, and anyone involved in the vandalism or attempted grabbing will face arrest.

The minister emphasized that the government will not tolerate such actions, regardless of the perpetrator’s party affiliation, nationality, or position.

The government’s stance is clear: the property belongs to the Egyptian government, and it will be protected at all costs.

The minister also warned against buying or selling government property without following due process, stating that such transactions will not be recognized.

The government is determined to protect public assets and ensure that those who attempt to steal or grab them are brought to justice.

The people of Malawi are urged to respect the law and refrain from engaging in activities that undermine the country’s development.

The government will continue to take action against those who seek to plunder public resources and property, and it is hoped that this decisive action will serve as a deterrent to others.

The case highlights the need for increased vigilance and protection of public assets, and the government is working to put measures in place to prevent such incidents in the future.
