Four stolen goats recovered, motor vehicle seized, police launch manhunt

Police in Rumphi have launched a manhunt for thieves who broke into the kraal of Owen Botha and stole four goats.

The incident occurred on wee hours of June 21 2023 at Dolora Village near Mkombezi Trading Centre.

Report filed at Rumphi Police Station indicates that on the said date, neighbour of the victim (Botha) heard bleating of goats outside the house close to M1 road.

The neighbour woke up and went to the house of Botha to inform him that he should check the goats in the kraal if they are in.

Before reaching the house of Botha, he saw a Nissan motorvehicle registration number BS 1327, leaving the place where it was parked just near the premise and it was going Mzuzu direction.

When the owner checked the kraal , he only found three goat kids. In no meantime they started following the said motor vehicle.

Upon reaching Golombe area, they found the said motor vehicle parked a side the road with goats inside and the driver. Upon questioning him, he switched on the vehicle and started cruising up to Jombo area where he made U-turn going back Karonga direction.

Botha and his friends followed and again the driver made a U- turn again going Mzuzu direction at Kacheche area.

Upon reaching at Emowa area near Saint Monica Primary School, the driver abandoned the motorvehicle and run away to unknown destination and the four goats where recovered and the motorvehicle was also seized.

The matter was later reported to Chinyolo Police Unit and investigation are underway to arrest the driver.

Meanwhile, police in the district are appealing to community members who can have that can lead to the arrest of the pugitive driver to come forward.
