FAM President Welcomes Japanese Ambassador, Strengthens Football Ties

The President of the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), Fleetwood Haiya, has hailed a historic visit by the Japanese Ambassador to Malawi, His Excellency Youichi Oya, to the FAM Headquarters at Mpira Village in Blantyre.

Haiya expressed gratitude and optimism about the growing partnership between Malawi and Japan through the sport of football.

“It was an honour to welcome the Japanese Ambassador to Malawi, His Excellency Youichi Oya, when he visited FAM Headquarters in Blantyre today,” said Haiya.

He described the visit as a significant milestone in fostering international cooperation in football development.

“This historic visit to Mpira Village is a strong signal of Japan’s willingness and commitment to partner with us in developing football in Malawi,” he added. “The visit follows our engagements with several embassies last year as part of our continued efforts to attract international partnerships.”

The FAM President emphasized the value of building bridges through sport and acknowledged Japan’s potential contribution to Malawi’s football landscape.

“We are grateful to Ambassador Oya for the courtesy call and the growing friendship between our two nations through the beautiful game,” said Haiya.

In his remarks, Ambassador Youichi Oya expressed his admiration for Malawi’s passion for football and pledged Japan’s support in enhancing sports cooperation.

“Football is a powerful tool for unity and development. I am impressed with the efforts FAM is making to uplift the sport in Malawi,” said Ambassador Oya. “Japan is open to exploring areas of collaboration, including youth development, coaching, and infrastructure support. We look forward to building a strong and lasting partnership.”

The visit marks a new chapter in FAM’s strategic efforts to “Transform The Game” by leveraging international support and technical cooperation to boost football standards in Malawi.
