A lone goal from substitute Alex Benson was enough to send the lions of forthill out of FDH Cup in a highly contested match at Karonga Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

The match started on a low pace with both teams failing to keep possession and create scoring opportunities but as we were approaching 20 minutes teams had settled in well finding some few chances but not clinical enough from their frontmen.

In Second half both teams made changes with Chitipa United bringing in Mabuchi Msiska for Dumisani Jere and Dedza Dynamos introdued Alex Benson for Chifuniro Mpinganjira who brought in a huge change as far as the tempo of the game was concerned with both teams trying to find a goal and it was former Chitipa United hitman Alex Benson who punished his former side with a cool header to send George Chikooka into another direction after receiving a beautiful cross from another Chitipa United former player Khumbo Banda.

Chitipa tried to find an equaliser coming wave after wave but to no avail and at the end of the day Dedza came out victorious with a goal to nil and proceed into the round of 16 of FDH Cup.

Mcdonald Nginde Mtetemera Coach for Chitipa Said that they had a bad day and they will try to rectify the problems they have encountered today.

“First of all I should say cup games are unpredictable anything can happen so I think the result of a loss has come to us so I have to congratulate our colleagues they prepared well for us and we have seen our weaknesses and we will work on them so that over the weekend we can do well”. Said Mtetemera

Furthermore Mtetemera said that he expect some of his boys back after missing out on todays game and has also asked Chitipa United fans to be patient as he is still building the team with youngsters.

” We had an agreement with Dedza that if we meet them, players who are on loan from them will not feature thats why you saw them in civilian and our Captain Chris Lwemba sustained a knock during the week so he was given a break but we expect a full squad when we meet Silver Strikers over the weekend and Chitipa fans should be patient with these boys as they are still young they might win ,draw and lose some games”. He concluded

His counterpart Gilbert Chirwa was happy with the win and was proud of his boys for a well done job.

“I think it was a 50/50 affair Chitipa is a very good side they gave us a good game it was a fast match but all in all we are happy that this time around we have won the match”. Said Chirwa

Asked on the timing of introducing former Chitipa united hitman Alex Benson in the second half Chirwa said that it was tactical.

” It was tactical we knew that it was his former side so we didn’t want to give him much pressure that’s why we brought him in the second half and am glad it worked out and he scored our only goal.” He concluded

As it is Dedza will face Ekwendeni Hammers at home in the round of 16 thats according to the draw that was conducted before the round of 32 matches.

In other matches Civil Service United thrashed Layman Panthers by sic six goals to nil while Mayamiko Stars lost at home 4-3 on penalties after it ended in a one-all draw in regulation time.
