Committee Impressed with Stiff Competition in Mzuzu National Bank Under 23 League
There is stiff competition in the ongoing Mzuzu District Football Committee National Bank Under 23 League with all Quarter Finals and Semifinals have been decided on postmatch penalties.
Commenting on the progress Mzuzu District Football Committee Caretaker General Secretary Alphack Mkandawire said the committee is impressed with the level of competition witnessed.
“There has been stiff competition so far in the league from all teams, and as a committee, we are impressed so far, we hope to finish on a good note.” Said Mkandawire.
In the last weekend, quarterfinals all except one that ended prematurely, were decided in postmatch penalties.
Mdezu Sporting progressed 4 -3 on penalties after their game against Ekwendeni utd Reserve ended 4 all draw in regulation time at Lupaso while at Ngazi Blue Spot edged out Chengo FC 3-2 on penalties following a goalless draw, Tough Rangers progressed 6-5 on penalties over Geisha FC after a 2 all draw in regulation time while Chikombo United progressed over Kavula Select following a premature end.
The pattern continued on Saturday and Sunday in semifinals at Lupaso Ground when Tough Rangers beat Chikombo United 5-4 on penalties after a goalless draw in regulation time to book their place in finals while Blue Sport progressed 2-1 on penalties over Mdezu Sporting following a one all draw.
Meanwhile, the committee has scheduled a third place between Mdezu Sporting and Chikombo United at Lupaso ground this Sunday while the finals between Tough Rangers and Blue Sport awaits Football Association of Malawi’s directive.
Inaugural Champions will go away with MK2 million with Runners up cutting home MK 1 Million while third placed will get MK500,000 with individual awards winner for Player of the tournament getting MK200 000 while Top goal scorer will get MK150 000.
