M’Mbelwa Kingdom, UK Strengthen Partnership on Culture and Development
M’Mbelwa V has reaffirmed the historical relationship between the M’Mbelwa Kingdom and the United Kingdom following a meeting with the UK High Commissioner to Malawi, Her Excellency Leigh Stubblefield, at the Edingeni Royal Headquarters.
The traditional leader said the meeting focused on the shared history and culture between the United Kingdom and M’Mbelwa Kingdom, as well as development initiatives aimed at improving the lives of people in Mzimba.
According to M’Mbelwa, the relationship dates back to the time of their forefathers, whose engagements helped shape the relationship that exists today.
The two sides also discussed the need for development projects, including Kauniuni, to have a direct and meaningful impact on local communities.
M’Mbelwa also appreciated the contribution of UK-supported non-governmental organisations working in areas such as agriculture and financial literacy, saying such initiatives are important in supporting communities.
The discussions further touched on the preservation of culture and wildlife. M’Mbelwa highlighted efforts to promote the use of alternative materials instead of real animal skins as part of initiatives aimed at protecting wildlife while preserving cultural traditions.
M’Mbelwa said he hoped the partnership between the United Kingdom and the M’Mbelwa Kingdom would continue to benefit communities in Mzimba.
“May our partnership continue to serve the people,” he said.
