Haiya Hails Wanderers and Silver Strikers’ CAF Performances, Rallies Support for Return Legs
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President, Fleetwood Haiya, has praised Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Silver Strikers for their spirited performances in their continental assignments over the weekend.

Haiya, who was among the thousands of fans at Bingu National Stadium on Sunday, expressed delight after Wanderers, popularly known as Nyerere, edged Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy 1-0 in the CAF Confederations Cup first-leg encounter.

“Today, I was at the Bingu National Stadium cheering on Mighty Wanderers FC as they secured a narrow but important victory. Much as we are happy with the win, we know we are not out of the woods yet. The real task is finishing the job in Francistown,” Haiya wrote.
The FAM boss also applauded Silver Strikers for their resilience in the CAF Champions League, where the Lilongwe giants fought back from behind to hold Elgeco Plus of Mauritius to a 1-1 draw in the preliminary round first leg.
“Silver Strikers showed great character, and that away draw is very crucial. It gives us confidence heading into the second leg,” Haiya noted.

He further urged Malawians to come in large numbers to rally behind the Bankers in the decisive return leg at Bingu National Stadium next week.
“With the kind of spirit our teams have shown, I have no doubt they can go far in these competitions. Let us unite and support them wholeheartedly,” he added.

The victories and results over the weekend have rekindled Malawi’s hopes of making a mark in continental football, with Wanderers and Silver Strikers carrying the nation’s pride in CAF club competitions.
