Chakwera Unveils Bold Five-Pillar Agenda in MCP Manifesto Launch
President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has launched the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) manifesto and national campaign with a bold five-pillar agenda aimed at transforming Malawi’s socio-economic landscape.
Speaking at the Bingu National Stadium, Dr. Chakwera emphasized that national food security is the foundation of the plan. He pledged to implement robust agricultural reforms to ensure that by 2030, Malawi will have adequate food reserves to meet the needs of every citizen.

The second pillar, job creation, focuses on expanding employment opportunities. Dr. Chakwera promised that an MCP-led administration will create 3 million jobs over the next five years, with a special focus on empowering the youth through targeted programs.
Under the third pillar of wealth creation, the President announced plans to transform the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) into a fully operational bank to support women and youth entrepreneurs. He also introduced the “10-10 Challenge”, which will provide 10,000 beneficiaries—primarily youth and women—with capital injections of K10 million each to launch small and medium-sized enterprises.
The fourth pillar centers on modernizing government and decentralizing power. Dr. Chakwera revealed plans to abolish the office of city mayors and give more authority to traditional leaders. He also committed to appointing at least four cabinet ministers under the age of 35 to ensure youth representation in governance.
The final pillar, good governance, features the rollout of the “Chakwera Masterplan”, which aims to expand 72 government programs across 24 sectors to improve service delivery. Additionally, he unveiled the “Tsogolo Fund”, a new initiative that will guarantee every child born in Malawi an initial savings deposit of K500,000 to secure their financial future.

Dr. Chakwera’s five-pillar agenda underscores a renewed commitment to inclusive development, youth empowerment, and economic transformation as he seeks a fresh mandate in the upcoming general elections.
