The 46th CAF Annual General Assembly, led by Dr. Patrice Motsepe in Addis Ababa, has concluded on a high note, leaving a lasting impression on all attendees.

The Ethiopian people’s warm hospitality was on full display, but what really caught attention was the country’s seriousness about hosting AFCON 2029.

Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, has made it clear that the country is eager to bring the Africa Cup of Nations back to Ethiopian soil.

With a rich history of hosting the tournament in 1962, 1968, and 1976, Ethiopia is confident in its ability to provide the necessary infrastructure and resources.

The Ethiopian Minister of Culture and Sports, Kejela Merdasa, emphasized the need for at least six standard stadiums to ensure the success of the tournament.

Former Football Association of Malawi President and Council Member Walter Nyamilandu Manda praised Ethiopia’s commitment.

“During my visit, it became clear that Ethiopia is serious about hosting AFCON 2029. Their passion and readiness were evident throughout the conference, sending a strong message of intent.”

Nyamilandu, who successfully led the Malawi National Football Team to AFCON multiple times, believes grassroots football development is crucial.

“If we put more effort into grassroots football, our country can do better.”

With the country’s commitment to hosting AFCON 2029, it’s likely that we’ll see significant investments in infrastructure and sports development.

As the bid process unfolds, Ethiopia’s determination and passion for football will undoubtedly make it a strong contender. Will Ethiopia’s dream of hosting AFCON 2029 become a reality? Only time will tell.
