“Calls for Interim Government and Accountability”

Billy Banda, Malawi Watch Executive Director, has made some explosive claims about President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s recent address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

According to Banda, Chakwera spoke to empty chairs, which he believes is a clear sign of God’s intervention, punishing the President for abandoning Malawi during a time of crisis.

Banda highlights that hunger has reached critical levels in districts like Machinga, Mangochi, Phalombe, Mulanje, Chikwawa, and Nsanje, yet Chakwera chose to leave the country to attend the UNGA.

He accuses the President of being an embarrassment to the nation, failing to deliver on promises, and sailing the country into calamities, poverty, and leadership crises.

The activist also claims that the ruling party, MCP, is targeting him and other Malawians for speaking out against Chakwera. He urges the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) and Malawi Police Service (MPS) to side with suffering Malawians instead of supporting the MCP and Chakwera.

Banda’s solution is for Chakwera to step down and allow an interim government to take over, ensuring free and fair elections in 2025. He also calls on fellow activists, including Bon Kalindo and Sylvester Namiwa, to unite and liberate Malawi from the MCP’s destructive grasp.

Lastly, Banda condemns the alleged sale of Likoma Island, urging Malawians to reject the MCP’s actions and hold Chakwera accountable for his role in the sale. He emphasizes that Chakwera is not above the law and should face justice.

These are serious allegations, and it’s essential to verify the facts surrounding Chakwera’s UNGA address and the situation in Malawi.
