Man Arrested for Burglary in Mzimba
Police at Jenda in Mzimba have apprehended 29-year-old Chawezi Jere on suspicion of burglary. He allegedly broke into the residence of Ephraim Mtatembo, a primary school teacher at Katete Boys, and stole two laptops and a D-Jack home theatre on the night of September 6, 2024, at Champhira.
Jere’s arrest on the evening of September 7, 2024, followed a thorough investigation by police detectives. They discovered that the suspect attempted to sell a laptop at a video show but failed to provide the password, raising the buyer’s suspicions. Police detectives in the area acted swiftly and arrested Jere. Upon questioning, he confessed to breaking into Mtatembo’s house and stealing the items. He also admitted to breaking into the residence of Josephine Nyirenda and stealing a 32-inch Samsung Plasma screen.
The total value of the recovered items is MK 940,000. The victims have positively identified their stolen property. Jere has been charged with burglary and theft, contrary to sections 309(2) and 271 of the Penal Code, respectively. He will appear in court once the paperwork is complete.
Jere hails from Songiso Village, Traditional Authority Mzikubola in Mzimba district.
