President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has reshuffled his Cabinet for the second time, a move aimed at strengthening government operations as Malawi works to revive its struggling economy.

The changes, which take effect immediately, were made in accordance with Section 92 of the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi.

Among the key appointments, Patricia Wiskes has been named Minister of Natural Resources, swapping portfolios with Alfred Gangata, who now takes over as Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture.

Simon Itaye has been appointed Minister of Industrialization, Trade and Tourism, replacing George Partridge, who has been appointed Governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi.

Government says the reshuffle is intended to inject fresh energy into key ministries and enhance efficiency in tackling pressing national challenges, including food security, foreign exchange shortages, and infrastructure development.

The move has been received with cautious optimism by members of the public, with many Malawians hopeful that the new Cabinet lineup will help accelerate economic reforms and service delivery.

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration is seeking to rebuild an economy that has been significantly weakened over the past five years.

Despite ongoing challenges, authorities point to early signs of stabilization, including improved fuel availability and a gradual in reduction in maize prices across parts of the country.
