The Mzuzu District Football Association (Mzuzu DFA) has announced 9 August as the official kick-off date for this year’s Castel Challenge Cup, following a preparatory meeting held at the Luwinga Technical Development Centre.
Teams have been divided into four clusters, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the quarterfinals.
Speaking after the draw, Mzuzu DFA General Secretary Alphack Mkandawire commended participating! teams for their continued commitment to organized football, particularly the Castel Challenge Cup. He also reminded teams to strictly adhere to the competition’s rules and regulations.
“We expect a competitive and disciplined tournament. It’s encouraging to see more teams registering for organized competitions, which shows progress in local football development,” said Mkandawire.
Mkandawire further confirmed that the matches are expected to begin next weekend.
Meanwhile, Baula Celtic’s Joseph Hara expressed his team’s readiness ahead of the tournament.
“As a team, we are ready. Our goal is to go beyond the group stages and, hopefully, win the cup,” said Hara.
Group Breakdown:
Cluster A: Kavula Select, Blue Sport, Chololo, and Holera
Cluster B: Chikombo United, Baula Celtic, Ezondweni, Chengo, Luvwele United, and Luvwele Corner FC
Cluster C: Rabiska, Lupaso, River Ducks, Blue Arrows, Simba, Geisha, and Tough Rangers FC
Cluster D: Hot Spurs, MRA FC, Kadeti, Mdezu, Hilltop, and Hippo FC
The winner from Mzuzu District will qualify for the regional phase of the Castel Challenge Cup.
