The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Regional Chairman for the North, Joseph Kamweko Chavula, has called on all party members to put aside personal and political differences and unite in full support of President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera and his newly appointed running mate, Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba, as the nation heads toward the crucial September 16, 2025, General Elections.

Speaking during a high-level consultative meeting held at the party’s Northern Region headquarters in Mzuzu, Chavula stressed that internal unity was not just essential but urgent, as the party looks to consolidate its strength across all regions.

“This is the time for unity, not division. We must rally behind our leader President Chakwera and his running mate Engineer Mumba with unwavering loyalty and shared purpose,” said Chavula. “The journey ahead is critical, and it demands that we act as one family, guided by our core values and vision for a better Malawi.”

The meeting brought together district and constituency officials, youth and women’s league representatives, and regional party structures, forming part of MCP’s broader strategy to strengthen grassroots engagement and foster internal reconciliation.

Chavula also urged party loyalists to intensify campaign efforts at community level by engaging in door-to-door outreach and mobilizing new supporters.

“The MCP remains a people-driven party. Let us reconnect with the communities, listen to their concerns, and inspire confidence in our agenda for transformation under Chakwera’s leadership,” he added.

The Chakwera-Mumba pairing has sparked fresh energy within the MCP camp, with many members viewing the combination as a balanced and strategic ticket poised to defend the party’s legacy and deliver inclusive development.

As election day draws closer, the MCP’s Northern Region wing is expected to continue holding strategic meetings aimed at reinforcing unity, resolving internal misunderstandings, and coordinating campaign efforts across key constituencies.
