President Dr. Lazarus Chakwea has urged Malawians to be always praying for the country for it to come out from situations it is sailing through for the citizens to breathe in a new sigh of relief claiming that whatever plans God has, no one cannot know.
Dr. Chakwera said in February 2024 his government started making preparations for the country to celebrate 60 years of independence at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe dubbed “Golden Jubilee-60 years saying an invited Head of State agreed to come to Malawi to join Malawians on this celebration day.
He said all the plans the country had prepared of holding a Golden jubilee at 60 years were canceled as no one knew what God’s plans were when the nation received the sad news of the death of Vice President Dr. Saulosi Chilima and eight others, who died in a plane crash in the Chikangawa forest in Mzimba district on Monday 10th June 2024.
Speaking at the Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe on Saturday when he led Malawians in prayers for the country’s 60 years of independence, President Chakwera said God has proved Himself to be the owner of life, country, and life.
President Chakwera joined the sentiments made by UTM Secretary General Dr. Patricia Kaliati in Balaka at the burial ceremony of Music legendary Lucius Banda that June 2024 will be remembered as the most painful month in the history of the country.
During her speech in Balaka, Dr. Patricia Kaliati said she would have loved it if God had deleted the month of June 2024 from the Malawi calendar claiming that it has been a month of grief and sorrow, that Malawians will live to remember for years.
President Chakwera asked Malawians to continue holding prayers for Dr. Saulosi Chilima and eight others so that the prayers can heal and unite the nation as Malawians want to know the results of the investigations
He said the duty of healing the country is for all including the Malawi Police Service advising it to demonstrate professionalism in their work as a service to the people and not the Police Mobile Force (PMF) to be victimizing the citizens.
“Malawians are one, death cannot make one run away, at 60 years, let’s work together for the good of the country as this will be following Dr. Saulosi Chilima’s vision and legacy of dying for the country with a national flag,” said Dr. Chakwera.
In his 60 Years of Independence message, President Chakwera has urged Malawians to unite in grief, peace, and harmony during these difficult times by putting Malawi First and working together towards a brighter future.
President Chakwera says in the past 6 decades, Malawi has remained a hardworking, peaceful, and God-fearing nation despite its myriad existential particularly economic challenges, and sadly the same period, the country had its share of loss and pain.
“The loss of 1,000 lives in Cyclone Freddy in 2023, and the recent loss of Vice President Dr. Saulosi Chilima and eight others, and the untimely death of the legendary musician, Lucius Banda are examples of moments of a deep sense of sadness,” says Chakwera on the wall.
