A Police officer, S/Insp Bannett Cambikwa of Salima Police Station on Wednesday, September 6th, 2023 accidentally fired a shot in the air as he was performing rifle safety precaution measures where the astray bullet fell on the roof of the National Bank, Salima Branch which is about 150 metres from the station.
According to police information released, the bullet pierced through the roof and ceiling and hit two customers who were on the line inside the Bank.
The two National Bank Customers have been identified as, Mr. Wesley Malenga, 50, of Gambatala village, Traditional Authority Lizulu in Ntcheu District who is a businessman and was hit on the left wrist and Mr. Gelson Bakali, 43, of Nthiwatiwa Village, Traditional Authority Kalonga in Salima District who is a businessman as well and was hit on the left wrist.
The Police information indicated: “Scene was visited and a small hole on the ceiling was seen, however, the bullet is yet to be found but empty cartilage has been recovered.”
It has been revealed that the victims were referred to Salima District Hospital for both medical examination and treatment whereas situation will follow thereafter having the findings of the medical personnel.
