Former ruling party Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) on sartuday held a big rally at Baka Primary School ground in Karonga District in witness of a huge crowd.

The rally was organised by the district committe in order to show their supporters that the party is still strong in Karonga and also to endorse the candidacy of former President of Republic of Malawi and current President of the Democratic Progressive Party His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mnthalika (APM) as their torch barrier during the 2025 Tripartite Elections.

Speaking during the rally, one of the invited guest Shadreck Namalomba who doubles as the spokesperson for the party and also the president for party said that they came to Karonga to let the people of Karonga know that they are concerned with the situation Malawians are going through and that they are ready to get back in the government and solve these problems.

” The people of Karonga should not be despair they have suffered all of us have suffered, am from Mangochi myself we have suffered for too long but there is Arthur Peter Mnthalika, 2025 is just around the corner we are going to bring back the economy on track.Right now there is hunger in the country you cant even afford a bag of maize, no medicine in hosoitals, no jobs for the youths and newly graduants and all these will be news as we are coming back because God cannot leave us alone he is going to give us Arthur Peter Mnthalika come 2025″ said Namalomba

Furthermore, Namalomba said that they have have agreed to endorse Arthur Peter Mnthalika as a party come 2025 because he is a performer.

“He has tried before as you know before 2020 this country’s economy was performing, inflation, cost of living was just okay unlike now these things are unbearable, we are talking about developments Karonga – Chitipa road, Nkhatabay – Mzuzu road, Livingstonia – Njakwa road all these these were done by Peter Mnthalika so he has been a performer and we believe that come 2025 APM will reverse all these sufferings and Malawi will be better again” he concluded

DPP Treasurer General Jappie Mhango who was also the guest of honour said that we came here to Karonga to tell our people on what we agreed during our National Governing Council (NGC) which we had in July.

“As you will recall on 3 july 2023 we had an NGC in Mangochi in which we agreed on a number of things like changing of our constitution and that was done and next was to setup dates on having our two political conferences with the first one happening in december to approve our new constitution and then in july 2024 we will have an elective conference to elect new party bearers in the party”. Said Mhango

Mhango continued to say that as NGC they agreed to endorse APM as their candidate come 2025.

“During the NGC the other issue we agreed is that come 2025 we will feature APM as our candidate because at the moment there is a general outcry that this country is sinking as I quoted from his worship Bishop Martin Mtumbuka and it needs someone to redeem us, so this is the message we carried for our people of Karonga to know on what we agreed at the NGC”. Concluded

On his part Reverend Mzomera Ngwira as Northern Regional Governor for the party thanked the leaders from Karonga for a job well done.

” First of all I would like to congratulate the people of Karonga, our leaders have made me proud they told me not to bother to come and assist them organise this rally and we have seen that these people are genuine people who have the party at heart as you know today we have heard that there was three big activities happening in karonga, a football match between north giants Chitipa United and Moyale Baracks, ordaining of two priests under Karonga diocese and police celebrations but people came out to support their party” Said Ngwira

On endorsing APM as DPP candidate come 2025 Ngwira said that he was the first one to do so together with his regional team.

” As you know I was the first person to endorse APM and we did it at regional level and what happened yesterday was embracing what we already agreed and we are happy that our District governors who are back bones of the party have also testified that northern region have agreed to endorse APM as our torch bearer come 2025″ Concluded Ngwira.
